Are we entering a post-PC world?

With smartphones and tablets becoming increasingly important in our day to day lives, it isn’t surprising to think that in 2013 tablets out-shipped laptop PCs for the first time. The chart below even indicates that tablets are expected to out-ship PCs overall for the first time in 2015.

Does that mean we’re entering a post-PC world?

Although these statistics may be true and computers are no longer the most convenient and cost-effective option, I don’t think we need to wave goodbye to PCs just yet. Read more

‘Generation Free’

I came across the term ‘Generation Free’ last week in an article on Wallblog, where it explained how there is an increasing amount of consumers who are not willing to pay for products and services. Why? Because they’ve been brought up in a time where most things are already fast, free and sufficient. Read more

Android vs. iOS

You wouldn’t be surprised to know that Apple still takes the majority share of profits within the smartphone industry nor would it be surprising that Apple has a rapidly growing dependence on the iPhone (with 5% of Apple’s total revenue in 2008 coming from the iPhone and jumping up to 53% in 2013!) We’ve all heard that for the first time in 2013 there were over one billion smartphone shipments, of which Android dominated the market.

Facebook’s Whatsapp acquisition - what do you think of it?

The hot topic last week was Facebook announcing it had bought the thriving mobile messaging app, Whatsapp. Not just that, but also the fact it was bought for $19 billion (in cash and stock)!

There has been a lot of talk as to why Facebook invested so much into the company. Are they going to be using it as another ad vehicle? We live in a non-stop age where we want to have information to hand at all times, and let’s face it, why wouldn’t we?! Read more

In ads we trust…or do we?

Consumer trust; the battle between traditional ads against modern ads

Even though there is an increasing rise in online advertisements, we continually have a higher trust in newspaper ads. Why do we see traditional ads as a more legitimate source of information than ads that have come about due to our popular activity e.g. online and social media? Read more

Text messages are outdated.

How long before we no longer communicate through texts because of apps like Whatsapp, Facetime and voice memos?

When we think of text messages, we think of it as a written means of getting in contact with someone and/or letting someone know what you’re up to. As there is a rise in the use of smartphones, there are a whole bunch of apps available for cheaper communication; whether it be the equivalent of an SMS such as Whatsapp, iMessage, Viber or BBM (to name only a few) or even a more innovate way of communicating via Snapchat, Facetime or Skype. Social networks can also be seen as a more permanent means of communication. Read more
