Are we entering a post-PC world?

With smartphones and tablets becoming increasingly important in our day to day lives, it isn’t surprising to think that in 2013 tablets out-shipped laptop PCs for the first time. The chart below even indicates that tablets are expected to out-ship PCs overall for the first time in 2015.

Does that mean we’re entering a post-PC world?

Although these statistics may be true and computers are no longer the most convenient and cost-effective option, I don’t think we need to wave goodbye to PCs just yet.

Although on a day to day scale tablets are a lot more useful – they’re compact, fast and easy to use. Not to mention all the apps they have available to them. However, PCs are a different kind of necessity. They allow for faster content creation, higher productivity and immersive gaming – to name only a few. What’s more, companies rely on PCs for their security and storage. You won’t be seeing anyone writing a novel, using professional design software or number crunching on a big spreadsheet on a tablet. PCs are unlikely to ever die out due to the fact that businesses will always need them.
