Even though shopping on mobile grew by 77% in 2013 [Source: Statista], consumers are less likely to close the deal on mobile than they are on desktop or tablets.

Is this because retailers don’t have adequate mobile responsive websites?

Consumers will browse and even put items into baskets on their smartphones – taking time to go through and choose their most favoured items. Yet when it comes to paying up they switch to their tablet or PC.

On a similar note, it’s not surprise that Google, Facebook and Amazon are amongst the top 5 most used mobile sites/apps [Source: Statista]. Is this because they all have great mobile responsive sites or purely because they dominate the online market as a whole?

As we are seeing a decline in PC sales, will this mean a subsequent decrease in online shopping? I doubt it. Should retailers try and encourage sales through smartphones rather than relying on the switchover to PCs and tablets? Definitely. Mobile mobile mobile; if your expertise is not demonstrated online, you’re no longer the expert.
