Mobile World Congress – Part 2 – Waterproof smartphones, Blackberry touch screen and Zuckerberg sending people to sleep
In the past few days, a lot has been showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
San Disk have shown off a 200GB microSD card, meaning it could hold around 40,000 mp3 format songs, or around 30,000 JPEG format photographs. Ford have revealed 2 types of electric bike, that are foldable and give navigation by vibrating left or right handlebars when you need to turn.
In smartphones, Blackberry has shown their new Blackberry Leap – a touch screen phone, without Blackberry’s usual QWERTY keyboard. Sony’s M4 Aqua is a mid-range priced, waterproof handset. The Lenovo Vibe Spot smartphone is designed to look like a camera. Google’s Project Ara - the construct your own smartphone - could be released as early as August, and ‘The Runcible’, a ‘smart pocket watch’ aims to bridge the gap between smartphones and smartwatches, with its round, wooden phone.
Lenovo plan to release a pocket projector, Microsoft have created a foldable wireless keyboard, security firm AVG have made glasses that make you invisible to facial recognition using infrared LEDs, and the beginnings of 5G mobile data have been discussed.
Fujitsu have developed iris recognition for smartphones, and Mark Zuckerberg’s uninspiring speech sent a few people to sleep.
The Conference is certainly not over yet, but a lot of exciting developments are due to take off in the world of Mobile soon following the releases we’ve seen.
