Facebook vs. Snapchat

Facebook’s owner, Mark Zuckerberg, is desperately trying to launch a competitor app to Snapchat that will, in hope, become more popular.

So far Facebook launched Slingshot, basically exactly the same as Snapchat with a few added extras such as a “select all” feature to ensure all your friends receive your sling, and the infamous unlocking mechanism which only allows users to view someone’s sling if they sling back an image themselves. Now there is Bolt. Although Bolt has been launched by Instagram, let’s not forget Facebook bought Instagram for £589 million in 2012.

Bolt is a mixture of Snapchat, Slingshot and Tinder. Once you swipe right, the image is gone. You can send customised (with text & drawings) images and videos to friends and reply by text as well. However, you can only send a bolt to one friend at a time and you are only allowed 20 ‘favourites’. This app is currently out on its soft launch and is only available in New Zealand, Singapore and South Africa.

Out of these oh-so-many similar options, which will you be using?
