First of all, Merry Christmas Eve! We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas 🙂
Now, back to the blog: oh look – it’s Christmas Eve themed! Here are a few (odd) Christmas Eve traditions and superstitions.
Mince pies at Christmas, we all thought they were traditional because they’re delicious. Well they are also said to bring you good luck the more you eat – but only if you bite into them, don’t “cut your luck”!
An old wives’ tale says that bread will never go mouldy if baked on Christmas Eve.
At the stroke of midnight all the sheep in the fields turn and bow towards the East. Similarly, at midnight on Christmas Eve all animals have the ability to speak! But don’t go and test this superstition as it’ll bring you bad luck…
Also at midnight on Christmas Eve, the doors of a home should be opened to let out any trapped evil spirits. Likewise, the first person to open the door on Christmas morning should shout, “Welcome, Father Christmas!” to the empty street in order to cast out bad omens and bring you good luck.
If you know of any other superstitions, let us know by leaving a comment below.
We will leave you to enjoy the rest of your Christmas Eve with a fantastic joke:
What did Mrs. Claus say to Santa when she looked in the sky?
“Looks like rain, dear.”
