More Bang for the Buck

Everything you think you know about Display Advertising

Where traditional meets contemporary; more bounce for the ounce; these are terms we could use to describe Display Advertising. Don’t agree? Let us explain why.

  • Display advertising was the internet’s first advertising model, but look how far it’s come since the first banner ads. You can be creative now! You aren’t restricted to static images – you can use moving images and videos. Go crazy! Well, maybe not too crazy.
  • Display ads are traditional in the sense that it is the closest thing to old-fashioned advertising (think back to ads in Newspapers) and contemporary as it fits in with the modern world (everything is now online).
  • The top display ad sizes are usually the Square, Leaderboard (728×90), and Skyscraper (160×600). We would have included the Full Banner (468×60) however, there are rumours that it’s dying out…
  • Like all advertising campaigns, the first thing you need to do is understand your audience and where you can find them. With that in mind, you can place your ad on any website! You don’t have to rely on big brand sites with high levels of traffic, such as Yahoo to promote your product or service. Websites that are more relevant to your product or service might not have as much traffic but your audience will be more targeted so it will increase your impression to conversion ratio.
  • Display ads can be used to increase brand awareness AND track performance marketing? What? That’s right, not only does it advertise your product or service and brand, but you can also track performance with impressions and click-throughs (and much more). This can be done on a performance based campaign or even a budget. Whatever suits you, after all, it is your campaign.
  • To top it all off, you can retarget your clients who have previously viewed your advert. How useful is that?!

If you haven’t already realised, we love fun facts, so here’s one to back up our points:

Spending on internet display reported the biggest jump in the half year, rising 27% globally year on year. Spend on internet display increased 26.3% in the first quarter in isolation. (Source: BrandRepublic)

So even though it was the internet’s first advertising model, its popularity is constantly growing. Compare that to anything else nowadays and you can see that it’s a big deal; mobile phones, fashion, even the internet itself have multiple versions of which you probably can’t even remember what the first one was. Can you? Didn’t think so.

So, go on. Go get more bang for your buck with Display Advertising.
